By participating in the Contest, each participant is required to be 18 years of age or older and the parent and/or legal guardian (“Parent”) of a girl who is aged 8-13 at the time the entry is submitted. Parent agrees that they have read, understand and agree to be bound by the Official Rules and the final decisions of the Sponsor.
HOW TO ENTER: All registrant information must be of a Parent who is 18 years of age or older, or entry will be disqualified. Enter online at www.americangirl.com/contest between January 1, 2007 and March 31, 2007. Limit one entry per eligible girl. Multiple entries submitted on behalf of the same girl will be disqualified; however, a Parent can submit one entry for each of their eligible children. Where indicated, Parent should enter their first and last name, girl’s first name and date of birth, complete address, phone number, and e-mail address. Parent must complete and submit the essay (no greater than 500 words), describing the community service/volunteer activity the girl has been involved with during the 12 months prior to the entry. PRIZES: Three (3) Grand-Prize Winners and five (5) Honorable Mention winners will be selected from all eligible entries received. A judging committee, consisting of American Girl employees, will select twenty (20) finalists from all eligible entries. Entries will be judged on initiative (How much personal initiative was involved in the activity?), effort (How much time and effort did the activity require?), impact (How much of a difference did the service activity make?) and personal growth (Did the applicant develop new insights or skills from the experience?), weighted equally. The twenty (20) finalists will go to the second round of judging, conducted by a panel of outside experts in the field of primary or secondary education. The panel will select the three (3) Grand Prize winners and five (5) Honorable Mention winners. In the event of a tie, the judging panel will rejudge, breaking ties based on impact, personal growth, effort and initiative, in that order, and if a tie remains, a new panel of judges will be asked to break the tie, applying the same criteria.
