My daughter Taylor started “Taylor’d With Love” because she wanted to learn to sew and do something for children going through chemotherapy, too. With the help of a local news anchorwoman, Taylor launched her organization.

Taylor says that it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, young or old—everyone can find something to do to help someone in need.

Taylor wanted to make sure she used the right fabric because we knew hair follicles were very sensitive when the children lost their hair. Taylor began making “autograph” hats that are white denim or canvas on the outside and flannel on the inside. Taylor picks out all of the flannel and sews the hats. She puts a marker that matches the color of the flannel with each hat so the children can get their friends and visitors at the hospital to sign their hats. She uses her allowance money and birthday money to purchase the fabric and pens. She also puts a note with each hat telling the children she hopes they are doing well and that she is praying for them.

Taylor takes most of the hats to the oncology office at a Tennessee children’s hospital. When we go on vacation, she checks the Internet to see if there is a hospital in the area where she can take hats. She has delivered them to Sloan-Kettering in New York City and Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.

Taylor likes to deliver the hats to the children personally when she can. She has such a special place in her heart for these children and wants to do something to help them. She is applying to be a Junior Volunteer at the hospital this summer, hoping she can work on the children’s cancer floor.

Taylor feels everyone can do something to help others, no matter how small. She encourages her friends to help. She says that it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, young or old—everyone can find something to do to help someone in need.
